Langtang Kyanjin Gompa Trek is a truly classic trek in the Langtang region that offers awe-inspiring mountain peaks, beautiful glacial lakes, and the friendly Tamang and Sherpa villages. This trek is popular among adventure trekkers and Kyanjin Gompa is the high alpine village with a cheese factory and vantage point to try climbing some trekker’s peaks. Langtang valley situated at the south of the Tibetan border is sandwiched between the main Himalayan range to the north and a slightly lower range of snow-capped peaks to the south. The valley provides the majestic views of Langtang Lirung (7246m) Gang Chhenpo (6388m), Naya Kanga Ri (5846m) and Dorje Lakpa (6966m).
Langtang Kyanjin Gompa Trek starts from Kathmandu with a scenic and zigzag drive along Trisuli River to Dhunche and finally reach Syabrubensi, a Tibetan Sherpa village and terrace farming lands of the people. Once this route was an important trading route with Tibet, therefore, most of the villagers and peoples here still are involved in the trade. On our route, we can have a trek through Langtang National Park as it is located at the very edge of the Park. We also have a chance to see some wild animals and birds. Among them are the monkeys, musk deer, Pika and the national bird of Nepal, the colorful Danphe.
While continuing our trek to Kyangjin Gompa, we cross many rivers along a gorge and walk through oak and rhododendron forests and glacial moraines. We can have two nights in Gompa and try climbing some trekker’s peaks. We also visit a yak cheese factory and have a view of the glaciers, which is also a gateway to Tibet. We trek back to Syabrubesi and drive on the same Zigzag road to Kathmandu.
