Helambu Circuit Trekking

Helambu circuit trekking is a beautifully peaceful and tranquil area for trekking and the trails are blissfully quiet when compared to the popular Annapurna and Everest region. The trek contains plenty of dramatic rises and plummeting descents all within the classic Himalayan foothills. In our seven or eight days trek, we will pass Mountain Viewpoints, alpine meadows, and ancient Buddhist villages. Accessing this trek is easy, taking a vehicle out to the region, with no possibility of delays due to flight cancellations.

The majestic green valley’s misty rhododendron forests and distant horizons of snowy peaks show some of the magic of this trek. Helambu is an ideal short trek, with simple tea-houses along the route, the area remains preserved and relatively unspoiled by tourism. You will experience the Yolmo culture of high mountain villages, marvel at the vistas of lonely high mountains and watch in amazement as the farmers toil in the fields using handmade tools and teams of water buffalo. Helambu lies to the north of Kathmandu and offers the closest experience of Sherpa culture without having to go to the Everest region. The Sherpa village of Tarke Ghyang which forms the focus of Helambu is a charming enclave of farmers and yak herders. The trip starts with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Sundarijal. Helambu provides an instant Himalayan trek for those with limited time.

Helambu circuit trekking is an easy and pleasant trek conducted at an average altitude of 3,500m. The trek takes you through Thadepati to Tarke Gyang, here a number of trails open up, and we go along the south ridge through Sermathang, and down to the river at Melamchi. This is the site of a mega project to bring drinking water to Kathmandu via a tunnel system. The trek concludes with a drive down to Kathmandu via Melamchi Bazaar through the Panchkhal valley.

Helambu Circuit trekking

We used Alpine Eco Trek for Helambu Circuit trekking. It can be confusing to pick one from among thousands of organizers in Nepal. We booked this trek with the AET team because of their professional responses to our emails and questions. Every time we had questions, they answered them very thoughtfully and clearly. Our journey started at Sundarijal. We had Durba as a guide and Rajan as a helper- both very experienced, patient and friendly. Durba knew the area well despite coming from a different area. The lodges are quite basic but superbly fantastic. The trek is scenic though. We had to walk uphill for several days but got rewarded with amazing views. For those having 2 weeks, the Helambu Circuit trekking is enjoyable. You can book through Alpine Eco Trek. They make great arrangements. Highly recommended.
