Gokyo Renjo La pass with Gokyo valley trek begins with an unforgettable scenic flight over the lush green forests and beautifully flowing rivers taking us towards Lukla airport which has one of the narrowest runways in the world. After our arrival at the Lukla airport, we start our climb walking past the delightful Sherpa villages in Phakding, leading us through the Khumbu Valley also known as the Sherpa land, Namche Bazaar (3,440 m), which is guarded by the mighty mountains from all sides. Set amongst an awe-inspiring high mountain scenery, Namche Bazaar is the gateway to any Everest Region trek and is a trading hub in the Khumbu Region. The trail continues up to two different routes; Renjo La passes or an alternative itinerary. The journey becomes more exciting as the trail gradually ascends and passes through patches of birch and rhododendron forests, where the elusive musk deer and Himalayan Tahr can also be seen sometimes. Walking past through small yak grazing settlements, we reach the Gokyo valley where you feel overwhelmed by the beauty of the tranquil, sparkling, turquoise-colored Gokyo Lake.
Gokyo Ri (5480 m) is an enticing attraction and one of the main highlights on our journey to Gokyo Renjo La Pass. It is a small day hike that offers us the best lookout for Mt. Everest (8848 m), rejoicing a panoramic view of other Himalayan giants including Makalu (8481 m), Cho Oyu (8201 m) and Lhotse (8516 m) to name a few. The Renjo La pass trail is what they say an off the usual beaten track and trekkers usually don’t take this path. That is what makes it so unique and exciting. A splendid view of Gokyo Lake on one side, the Rermo Pokhari Lake on the other side and a myriad of snowy peaks in the background provide the most incredible views to witness to its trekkers. From here, the trail descends alongside the opposite side of the bank of the Dudh Koshi River which is also called the Milk River as the splashing waters among the rocks make the water seem white.
