Classic Everest base camp trek Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350m).

Day 02: Sightseeing / Cultural Day in Kathmandu Valley.

Day 03: Drive from Kathmandu to Jiri, 8 hrs drive.

Day 04: Trek from Jiri/Shivalaya to Deurali, 5 to 6 hrs walking.

Day 05: Trek from Deorali to Sete, 5 to 6 hrs walking.

Day 06: Trek from Sete to Junbesi, 5 to 6 hrs walking.

Day 07: Trek from Junbesi to Nuntala, 5 to 6 hrs walking.

Day 08: Trek from Nuntala to Kharikhola, 5 to 6 hrs walking.

Day 09: Trek from Khari-Khola to Puiyan, 6 hrs walking.

Day 10: Trek from Puiyan to Phakding, 5 to 6 hrs walking.

Day 11: Trek from Phakding to Namche (3,445m), 5 to 6 hrs walking.

Day 12: Acclimatization day in Namche.

Day 13: Trek from Namche to Tengboche (3,860m), 6 to 7 hrs walking.

Day 14: Trek from Tengboche to Pheriche (4,240m), 5 to 6 hrs walking.

Day 15: Another acclimatization day at Pheriche.

Day 16: Trek from Pheriche to Lobuche (4,900m), 5 to 6 hrs walking.

Day 17: Trek Lobuche to Gorakshep (5,150m) to Kalapathar (5,545m), back to Gorakshep, 8 hrs walking.

Day 18: Trek from Gorekshep to Everest Base Camp (5,364m) and back to Lobuche, 8 hrs walking.

Day 19: Trek from Lobuche to Pangboche, 6 to 7 hrs walking.

Day 20: Trek from Pangboche to Khumjung Village (3,789m), 5 to 6 hrs walking.

Day 21: Trek from Kkumjung to Manjo, 6 hrs walking.

Day 22: Trek from Manjo to Lukla (2,860m), 6 to 7 hrs walking.

Day 23: Flight from Lukla to Kathmandu, 35 minutes flight.

Day 24: Final departure.

  • Day 01 Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350m):

    Arrive at Kathmandu Airport, transfer to hotel. Short briefing will follow concerning the necessary formalities and your trekking itinerary. Overnight at hotel. 

    • Day 02 Sightseeing / Cultural Day in Kathmandu Valley:

      Morning Breakfast at hotel, a full day sightseeing around UNESCO Kathmandu where your tour guide will escort you on a tour of Buddhist and Hindu temples and shrines reflecting ancient local traditions. Overnight in Kathmandu.

      • Day 03 Drive from Kathmandu to Jiri, 8 hrs drive:

        After breakfast, we go to local bus park and take a scenic drive to Jiri which takes about 8 hrs to reach Jiri or Shivalaya. As an option, we can take a private jeep drive to Shivalaya, this way we can have safe and easy drive. Overnight at guest house in Jiri or Shivalaya. 

        • Day 04 Trek from Jiri/Shivalaya to Deurali, 5 to 6 hrs walking:

          If we are driving up to Jiri and start our trek from here, we trek with a steady climb through cultivated fields and tiny Tamang villages. Climbing diagonally , we cross forested areas and open pasture land before again descending to Shivalaya. From here it's steady climb to the top of the Deurali pass (3,000m) where we spend the night at local guest house.

          • Day 05 Trek from Deorali to Sete, 5 to 6 hrs walking:

            From Deurali, it's a short walk to the Sherpa village of Bhandar which is littered witty prayer walls and small gompas (Buddhist temples) Descending to the valley floor at the river side town of Kenja, the trail climbs steeply up a ridge richly forested with oak and rhododendron to Sete (2,575m) whose beautiful hilltop monastery is a worth a visit. Overnight at local guest house.  

            • Day 06 Trek from Sete to Junbesi, 5 to 6 hrs walking:

              We climb through fragrant pine and oak forest to the Lamjura pass ( 3,500m) for our first glimpse of Everest, then it's downhill again to the large Sherpa village of Junibesi. From here there are good views of Gaurishankar, Number Himal and Dudh Kunda. Overnight at local lodge. 

              • Day 07 Trek from Junbesi to Nuntala, 5 to 6 hrs walking:

                From here we walk up the solung ridge, from where Everest is again visible and then descend to Ringo Khola, ringed with apple orchards. The trail crosses the Traksindola (3,071m) before descending once again through the forest to Nuntala. Overnight at local lodge.  

                • Day 08 Trek from Nuntala to Kharikhola, 5 to 6 hrs walking:

                  From Nuntala, descend continues to Dudh Koshi (Milk river) the largest river on the trek. Then ascend through several Sherpa and Rai villages. Terraced fields and forest to the spread out village of Khari-Khola. Overnight at guest house.

                  • Day 09 Trek from Khari-Khola to Puiyan, 6 hrs walking:

                    The path ascends through Sherpa villages and a forest inhabited by monkeys, and then winds steeply up and down through the Dudh Koshi canyan to Puiyan. Overnight at guest house. 

                    • Day 10 Trek from Puiyan to Phakding, 5 to 6 hrs walking:

                      The trail climbs for about an hour after Puiyan to a ridge at 2,800m. Then up to another ridge. Passing the path to Lukla airport, after which we climb on to Phakding. Overnight at guest house. 

                      • Day 11 Trek from Phakding to Namche (3,445m), 5 to 6 hrs walking:

                        The trek begins with a slight climb to Jhorsalle, the trail passes a waterfall. Full day, we pass villages interspersed with magnificent forest- rhododendron, magnolia trees and giant firs and on the way to walking you will be rewarded (weather permitting) your first glimpse of Kusum Kanggru (6,369m) Thamserku (6,608m) Everest (8,848m) and Nuptse (7,879 m). A steep climb up to the beautiful village of Namche bazaar (3,445m). Overnight at guest house. 

                        • Day 12 Acclimatization day in Namche:

                          Acclimatization is most important before proceeding to a higher elevation. It is therefore recommended that we take a short day's hike to Everest view hotel or relax and explore the sherpa culture of Namche village. 

                          • Day 13 Trek from Namche to Tengboche (3,860m), 6 to 7 hrs walking:

                            A couple hours walk takes us to phungithanga; from there the trail climbs through forests where we can spot musk deer. Tengboche sits on a saddle at 3,860m in a clearing surrounded by dwarf fires and rhododendrons. Kwongde (6,187m) Tawache(6,542m) Everest (8,848m) Nuptse (7,855m) Lhotse (8,618m) Amadablam (6,856m) Thamserku (6,608m) provides an inspiring panorama of Himalayan giants. We visit the Buddhist Monastery at Tengboche, the largest in Khumbu region. Overnight at guest house in Tengboche. 

                            • Day 14 Trek from Tengboche to Pheriche (4,240m), 5 to 6 hrs walking:

                              Beyond Tengboche the altitude really starts to tell. The trail droops down to Deboche, crosses the Imja Khola and climbs past superb mani stones ( carved with the Tibetan Buddhist chant om mani padme hum) to Pangboche at 3,890m. The gompa here is worth visiting. Then the trail start climbs to Pheriche 4,240m. Where there is a small health post and medical facility, which gives lectures everyday on Altitude Sickness. Overnight at guest house. 

                              • Day 15 Another acclimatization day at Pheriche:

                                again walking up and then coming back down is better than just resting in high altitude so we can make a day trip to Nangkartshang Gompa (5,000m) or up the hill to look down onto Dingboche, either walk offers good views. Overnight at guest house. 

                                • Day 16 Trek from Pheriche to Lobuche (4,900m), 5 to 6 hrs walking:

                                  The trail climbs to Phalang karpo at 4,340m then Duglha at 4,620m,From Dughla the trail ascends the broad, gently sloping valley and climb steeply in to the terminal moraine of the Khumbu glacier then left in to the memorial area Chukpilhara, before reaching the Lobuche at 4,900m. Overnight at guest house in Lobuche.   

                                  • Day 17 Trek Lobuche to Gorakshep (5,150m) to Kalapathar (5,545m), back to Gorakshep, 8 hrs walking:

                                    The trail from Lobuche follows the grassy ablation valley with great views of Pumori then crosses tributary glaciers to reach the dry lake bed of Gorakshep. Stop for lunch then climb Kalapattar to get the best views of Everest and the surrounding mountains and back to Gorakshep for the evening. Overnight at Gorakshep. 

                                    • Day 18 Trek from Gorekshep to Everest Base Camp (5,364m) and back to Lobuche, 8 hrs walking:

                                      Wake up early in the morning, get well ready and start an early hike to Everest base camp. Although, the hike is cold and freezing, we have a new energy in our body to be on the highest base camp in the world. We are enthusiastic to be at that base camp from where all the climbers start their expedition to summit the top of the world. We enjoy our quality time spending at Everest base camp and trek back to Lobuche for overnight stay. 

                                      • Day 19 Trek from Lobuche to Pangboche, 6 to 7 hrs walking:

                                         We start our trek after breakfast at Lobuche. We are in a hurry to leave this beautiful place since this is very and cold and freezing place. We trek slowly down to Pangboche where we can find a better accommodation alternative.  

                                        • Day 20 Trek from Pangboche to Khumjung Village (3,789m), 5 to 6 hrs walking:

                                           We walk down to the river then start hiking up to Khumjung village. Since this is a very beautiful village we will enjoy our stay at Khumjung exploring the Sherpa culture and traditions. Overnight at guest house in Khumjung village. 

                                          • Day 21 Trek from Kkumjung to Manjo, 6 hrs walking:

                                            From Kumjung it is a short hike to Namche Bazaar. We will stop and give you time to make any final souvenirs purchases before continuing on down the hill to Manjo. Overnight at guest house in Manjo. 

                                            • Day 22 Trek from Manjo to Lukla (2,860m), 6 to 7 hrs walking:

                                              Even though we are going down the valley the trek has a final sting for us. We must hike up a hill to get to Lukla. Overnight at hotel in Lukla. 

                                              • Day 23 Flight from Lukla to Kathmandu, 35 minutes flight:

                                                After breakfast at hotel, we will be transferred to airport in Lukla and fly back to Kathmandu. Upon arrival at Kathmandu airport we will be transferred to our hotel. Rest and relax till evening. One of our team leaders will take you to a typical Nepali restaurant for a farewell dinner to celebrate the Classic Everest base camp trek. Overnight at hotel.  

                                                • Day 24 Final departure:

                                                  After breakfast, we drop you to airport for your flight back to home. We wish you have a safe and sound flight and see you again in the future.
