Useful Information

Poon Hill (3210 meters), also known as Pun Hill is about 40km to the northwest of the lake city of Pokhara (810 meters) is probably one of the best viewpoints in the world.  And, undoubtedly Poon Hill offers stunningly beautiful and photogenic Himalayan panoramas including Mount Dhaulagiri, Mount Nilgiri, Mount Machhapuchhare (also known as Fishtail Mountain), and Mount Annapurna II, Mount Annapurna South, and Lamjung Himalayan ranges.

Thousands of mountain lovers from around the world and millions of domestic trekkers have reached Poon Hill Viewpoint for the charismatic Sunset/Sunrise and breathtaking Himalayan views.

An interesting story about the Poon Hill Viewpoint

A former major from the Indian Army, Mr. Tek Bahadur Pun is the founder of the Poon Hill viewpoint. It used to be called Lung Tung Danda (Now Poon Hill) until some 45 years ago. After Pun’s retirement from the Indian Gorkha army, he came back to his village. One day, he hiked from his village to a beautiful ridge called Lung Tung Danda and spent many hours at this ridge, where fantastic views of the scenery around Annapurna South and the Dhaulagiri range, could be seen. Realizing that tourism could become a great platform for change for his people, he soon initiated the lodges and hotels at Ghorepani, helped pave a rough path leading to the top of Poon Hill, and started guiding trekkers to its summit at sunrise and sunset. These early travelers spread their experiences and years later have led to the Poon Hill route becoming a renowned global trekking route and one of the best viewpoints in the world.

5-Day Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek

Some of my friends and I did 5 days Ghorepani Poon Hill trek with Ram from Alpine Eco Trek and are so happy we chose Ram and his extremely friendly team to guide us. This was our first time in Nepal, and our hike was definitely the highlight of our trip. Ram was an unbelievably awesome leader. He was thoughtful, considerate, well-spoken, and just an all around cool guy to spend 5 days with (Ram, we miss you). We cannot recommend Ram enough and hope as many people will get to meet Ram and the rest of his team. Thanks for the memories, Ram.
