Ghorepani also is known as Gode Pani, situated at an elevation of 2870 meters, is one of the prettiest villages in the Annapurna region of Nepal. The village contains a wide range of hotels and guesthouses that provide accommodations and meals to adventure trekkers, many of whom spend the night before a pre-dawn hike to the top of nearby Poon Hill (3210 meters) to watch the charismatic sunrise and Himalayan panoramas.
Ghorepani village was a rest stop, in the past, where ancient traders found water (Pani in Nepali dialect) for their horses (Ghoda in Nepali dialect) thus leading to the nomenclature Ghorepani. The village is renowned for one of the best trekking spots in Nepal which provides breathtaking views of some of the most majestic Himalayan Mountains of Nepal. It is a gateway to the various beautiful treks in the Annapurna region and also rich in flora and fauna, surrounded by lush green jungles blazing with beautiful red rhododendron forests. You may see 360° views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Himalayas on a clear day. Mount Dhaulagiri I, II, III, IV, V, Tukuche Peak, Dhampus Peak, Mount Nilgiri, Annapurna South, Barah Sikhar, Machhapuchhre (aka Fishtail) are some of the major peaks seen from this village. The culturally rich Ghorepani village is mostly inhabited by the Pun Magar and Gurung inhabitants, an indigenous hill-tribe. Both the ethnic groups have a great reputation as fearless warriors in the British and Indian Army regiment. One can witness their culture, unique lifestyle, architecture, and authentic cuisines in this village. Ghorepani village is reachable after the pleasant 12 to 15 hours walk from the ancient village of Birethanti and Birethanti village is reachable after two hours’ of a scenic drive from the lake city of Pokhara.

Accommodations during the 4 days Poon Hill Trek, we arrange the best available lodges/guesthouses on full board (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) in each village. On the first day of our hike, we stay in a beautiful village called Ulleri. This village has a wide range of lodges and guesthouses featuring the fantastic facilities of rooms with comfortable beds, neat and clean bedsheets and warm blankets with attached bathrooms and Internet Wi-Fi. The lodge’s restaurant serves authentic and organic meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) from their menu. On the day second, we will hike from Ulleri to Ghorepani village. In Ghorepani village, there are many nice and luxury lodges and guesthouses are available. We arrange one of the best lodges on the full board in this village. On the day third, we will hike from Ghorepani to Poon Hill and continue to Tadapani where we can find a basic to standard lodges for the overnight stay with full board. On the day fourth, we hike down to Ghandruk village, after lunch at this beautiful village, we conclude the hike with three hours’ drive to Pokhara.
Meals and Drinking Water
During the 4 days Poon Hill Trek, our hiking package includes meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) and lodge accommodations. Meals during the hike will be mostly the authentic Nepalese dishes like rice, curry, lentil, vegetables, spicy free pickles, curd, plain chapatti and etc. Other cuisines like continental, Tibetan and Indian are also available. These meals will be served as per the menu of the lodge. Besides that, you can buy bars, bread, cookies, and hot chocolates, extra on the trail on your own.
Regarding the drinking water, during the Poon Hill hike of 4 days, drinking water can be easily found everywhere, every next hour you can buy pure and safe drinking water from the local teashops and guesthouses. Also, you can get hot water from the lodge and fill in your bottle every time it gets empty. So, do carry a reusable water bottle with yourself. We request you not to buy mineral water bottles (plastic) on the way as it will help in preserving the nature of this beautiful region. Moreover, you can also carry water purifier tablets or SteriPen with you to purify the water.
Difficulty and Physical Fitness
Hike to Poon Hill in 4 days is a short and easy hike in the Annapurna region. We have organized 4 days of Poon Hill Trek for the people of varied age differences. Even though it is a short and easy trek, you are required to be in good shape and with professional guidance by our crew, anyone with a reasonably fit health will be able to enjoy 4 days Poon Hill Trek. Previous trekking or hiking experience is not required for this trek.
Best Season for the Poon Hill Trek 4 Days
The best seasons for the Poon Hill trek 4 days are autumn (from September to November) and spring (from mid-March to mid-May). During these seasons, the weather will be warm and clear with spectacular views. If you want to avoid the rush time and crowds then winter (December to February) will be an ideal time to go on this trek. Monsoon season (June to Aug) makes everything unclear and slippery.
Can I see Mount Everest from Poon Hill Viewpoint?
Unfortunately, no. You can’t see Mount Everest from Poon Hill Viewpoint. Mount Everest is located in the eastern Himalayan range and Poon Hill is located in the western Himalayan range of Nepal. But Poon Hill Viewpoint offers charming other great Mountain peaks like Mount Dhaulagiri, Mount Annapurna range, Mount Nilgiri and the prettiest Fishtail Mountain.
How much luggage can I take during my Poon Hill Trek 4 Days?
As the hike is short and easy, it is not necessary to bring a lot of clothing for this hike and since the lodges provide cozy rooms with warm enough blankets, it is not necessary to bring a sleeping bag too. The weight limit for your hiking pack is 10 kg per trekker, if you are two trekkers there will be one porter from our company and our porter will carry both of your luggage that should be 20kg max. You can carry your daypack on your own, that should be around 5 kg. On your daypack please only carry what are essentials for the hike such as camera, water bottles, and other valuable belongings. You can leave your unnecessary stuff either at your hotel in Pokhara or at the Alpine Eco Trek store in Pokhara for free and it will be completely safe.
Gears for the Poon Hill Trek 4 Days
4 days Poon Hill Trek is a short and altitude free trek in the Annapurna region, also the nearest destination from the lake city of Pokhara, it is not necessary to bring any special gear from home. You can buy or rent most of the hiking gears in Pokhara at a reasonable price. We at Alpine Eco Trek recommend you to arrange a pair of walking shoes (sports will be fine), trousers, socks, one warm jacket, t-shirts and a long-sleeved shirt, Sunscreen, small backpack, torch (flashlight), Camera, memory card and battery charger( spare batteries) and one quick-drying towel.
Are we dropped back at our hotel after the Hike?
Definitely, we will drop you back to your hotel in Pokhara at the end of the 4 days Poon Hill trek. Please feel free to let us know the name of your hotel in Pokhara.
Do I need Insurance for the Poon Hill Trek 4 Days?
As the trek is a short and sweet hike, it is not mandatory to have travel insurance for this trek but traveling is an investment and we believe that insurance makes your investment secure. And, It is also a condition of joining any of our treks that be protected against comprehensive expenses potential to incur due to medical issues, loss of your things or accidents (to include helicopter rescue, air ambulance, and treatment costs). Please be noted that we do not arrange or sell insurance.
Also, a relaxed trip is not possible without good travel insurance. In the event of any sickness or injury, the cost of emergency treatment and evacuation is shocking. Therefore, travel insurance is recommended for everyone who signs up any trips with us. Please kindly provide us your copy of the insurance policy (e.g. your insurance certificate) or carry it with you while you come on the trip.
