Day 01:Drive from Pokhara to Nayapul, trek to Ulleri. Overnight at Guesthouse.

Our guide and porters will greet you at your hotel or at the Pokhara airport and drive straight to 3 days Poon Hill trekking starting point called Nayapul, 2 hours drive, from here trekking about 4 to 5 hours to Ulleri village. Overnight at guesthouse with breakfast, lunch, dinner with tea/coffee.

After breakfast, start another pleasant day, hiking from Ulleri Village to Ghorepani 2850 m, this is the most beautiful hike of your trip. We will walk through the villages, cool and pleasant jungles crossing the quiet and beautiful streams. Our hike is also about 5 hours. Lunch will be provided somewhere at a beautiful village on the way to Ghorepani. Overnight at Guesthouse in Ghorepani village with Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and 3 cups of Tea, Coffee.

Hike to Poon Hill, today is the biggest day of your trip. Weak up so early in the morning by 4:30 AM and hike to Poon Hill 3210m, about an hour hike. The grand sunrise and the stunning Himalayan range including Annapurna Himalayas and Dhaulagiri Mountain would be a marvelous memory with a lot of great pictures. After sunrise and enjoying views, come back to Guest House, have a hot breakfast and start the hike back to Nayapul and drive back to Pokhara. 6 to 7 hours walking, 2 hours drive. Reach Pokhara by 5 PM. End service

Trip Fact

Total Distance of the Trek: about 45KM (about 28 miles, Nayapul Poon Hill Nayapul) round trips.

A 2-hour drive from Pokhara to Nayapul on a private car or van (depending on group size) with our guide and porters, hike from Nayapul to Birethanti check post, continue to Tikhedunga and to Ulleri Village, first night at a guest house in Ulleri village. The next day to Ghorepani village, the second night in this village at a good guesthouse. Day third, early morning hike to Poon Hill, after sunrise back to the guesthouse, and trek back to Pokhara.

Accommodations

3 days Poon Hill trek starting and finishing in Pokhara, the package does not include accommodations in Kathmandu and Pokhara but we at Alpine Eco Trek are always happy to arrange accommodations in these cities for you as per your budget and choice. Accommodations during the 3 days Poon Hill trek, we arrange the best available lodges/guesthouses on full board (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) in each village. On the first day of our hike, we stay in a beautiful village called Ulleri. This village has a wide range of lodges and guesthouses featuring the fantastic facilities of rooms with comfortable beds, neat and clean bedsheets and warm blankets with attached bathrooms and Internet Wi-Fi. The lodge’s restaurant serves authentic and organic meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) from their menu. On the day second, we will hike from Ulleri to Ghorepani village. In Ghorepani village, there are many nice and luxury lodges and guesthouses are available. We arrange one of the best lodges on the full board in this village. On the day third, we will hike from Ghorepani to Poon Hill and then trek down to Nayapul where we conclude the hike with two hours drive to Pokhara.

Meals and Drinks

Food and drinking water during the 3 days Poon Hill trek, our hiking package includes meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) and lodge accommodations. Meals during the hike will be mostly the authentic Nepalese dishes like rice, curry, lentil, vegetables, spicy free pickles, curd, plain chapatti and etc. Other cuisines like continental, Tibetan and Indian are also available. These meals will be served as per the menu of the lodge. Besides that, you can buy bars, bread, cookies, and hot chocolates, extra on the trail on your own.

Drinking water during the trek can be easily found everywhere, every next hour you can buy pure and safe drinking water from the local teashops and guesthouses. Also, you can get hot water from the lodge and fill in your bottle every time it gets empty. So, do carry a reusable water bottle with yourself. We at alpine eco trek would request you not to buy mineral water bottles (plastic) on the way as it will help in preserving the nature of this beautiful region. Moreover, you can also carry water purifier tablets or SteriPen with you to purify the water.

Best Seasons

The best seasons for the Poon Hill trek 3 days are autumn (from September to November) and spring (from mid-March to mid-May). During these seasons, the weather will be warm and clear with spectacular views. If you want to avoid the rush time and crowds then winter (December to February) will be an ideal time to go on this trek. Monsoon season (June to Aug) makes everything unclear and slippery.

Packing List

You are suggested to bring your warm clothes and trekking shoes from your home town, however, in Pokhara, there are some gear shops that provide gear on sale and rent. And, since the trek is a short and easy hike, no need to bring special gear. Recommended to bring with you are:

  • A pair of normal walking shoes (sports shoes also fine),
  • One warm jacket, a couple of T-shirts,
  • A pair of trousers, two pairs of socks,
  • A long-sleeved shirt, sunscreen, bag-pack about 30litures,
  • Torchlight, Camera, quick-drying towel,
  • Sun and warm hat, gloves, thermal underwear, sunglass, etc.

Our staff will be there to greet you at the Pokhara airport or at your hotel in Pokhara and at the same time, you will be provided with alpine eco trek - duffel bag to put your trekking stuff which will be carried by our porters. 1 porter for 2 clients and a porter can carry up to 20 kilograms.

Poon Hill 3 days hiking tour is one of the most beautiful treks in Nepal, the trek begins with a pleasant walk through ever-charming villages crossing several suspension bridges and waterfalls enjoying the mesmerizing view of snowy peaks interacting with lovely and welcoming locals. The trek is quite an easy and comfortable walk so that no need for any previous trekking and hiking experience. However, you need to be reasonably fit for this trek, alpine eco trek suggests you spend at least 4 to 5 days a week doing some physical training (like treadmill, jogging, cycling and etc) for about 30 to 50 days prior to the trek departure date.

What are the options to get Pokhara from Kathmandu?

Normally, there are three ways to get Pokhara from Kathmandu

A Tourist Bus Travel:

A Tourist Bus leaving every day from Kathmandu to Pokhara by 7:00 am in the morning from Soorkhutee (2 minutes walk from Thamel) will be the first option. It is a 200km drive from Kathmandu that takes 6 hours to reach Pokhara. The cost of a tourist bus ranges from USD 8 to USD 25. Normal tourist buses with WIFI and insurance coverage facilities with comfortable 2x2 folding seats, 30 people capacity will cost you USD 8 per person and supper deluxe buses with air-conditioning and very comfortable seats with WIFI, buffet lunch and insurance coverage facilities will cost you USD 25 per person. You can choose one of the above buses as per your budget and comfort requirements.

A Private Vehicle:

The second option to getting Pokhara from Kathmandu will be by private vehicles that cost you USD 100 for a car (max 4 people capacity), USD 150 for a Jeep (max 7 people capacity) and USD 200 for a Van/ Toyota Hiace (max capacity of 13 people) with luggage storage space. You can choose the type of vehicle depending on your group size. If you take a private vehicle, it will be a more flexible and enjoyable journey.

By flight:

The third option to get Pokhara from Kathmanduwill be by flight, there are many flights to Pokhara from Kathmandu every day. You may choose to take a flight to get there which is one of the best, fast and convenient ways to get to Pokhara. It takes 25 minutes from Kathmandu and the price for a flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara is USD 110 per person for one way.

Can I see Mount Everest from Poon Hill?

Unfortunately, no. You can not see Mount Everest from Poon Hill Viewpoint. Mount Everest is located in the eastern Himalayan range and Poon Hill is located in the western Himalayan range of Nepal. But Poon Hill Viewpoint offers charming other great Mountain peaks like Mount Dhaulagiri, Mount Annapurna range, Mount Nilgiri and the prettiest Fishtail Mountain.

How much luggage can I take during the 3 days Poon Hill Hike?

As the hike is short and easy, it is not necessary to bring a lot of clothing for this hike and since the lodges provide cosy rooms with warm enough blankets, it is not necessary to bring a sleeping bag too. The weight limit for your hiking pack is 10 kg per trekker, if you are two trekkers there will be one porter from our company and our porter will carry both of your luggage that should be 20kg max. You can carry your daypack on your own, which should be around 5 kg. On your daypack please only carry what are essentials for the hike such as a camera, water bottles, and other valuable belongings. You can leave your unnecessary stuff either at your hotel in Pokhara or at the Alpine Eco Trek store in Pokhara for free and it will be completely safe.

Do I need Insurance for the Poon Hill Trek 3 days?

As the trek is a short and sweet hike, it is not mandatory to have travel insurance for this trek but travelling is an investment and we believe that insurance makes your investment secure. And, It is also a condition of joining any of our treks that be protected against comprehensive expenses potential to incur due to medical issues, loss of your things or accidents (to include helicopter rescue, air ambulance, and treatment costs). Please be noted that we do not arrange or sell insurance.

Also, a relaxed trip is not possible without good travel insurance. In the event of any sickness or injury, the cost of emergency treatment and evacuation is shocking. Therefore, travel insurance is recommended for everyone who signs up for any trips with us. Please kindly provide us with your copy of the insurance policy (e.g. your insurance certificate) or carry it with you while you come on the trip.
